The Gauss Expedition (1901 – 1903), was the first German expedition to Antarctica, led by Arctic veteran and geology professor Erich von Drygalski in the ship Gauss.

Protecting the Gulf of Mannar

The Gulf of Mannar is a shallow stretch of water separating India from Sri Lanka. Despite its important ecological and cultural significance as one of South Asia's largest biosphere reserves, the Indian Government is planning to build a shipping channel through the gulf - the Sethusamudram Ship Channel. FIELD lawyers attended the first International meeting of the campaign to protect the Gulf of Mannar.

House & Senate Leaders Support US $250M for Ocean Energy
Leadership in both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate are calling on the Department of Energy (DOE) to allocate US $250 million of the $2.5 billion in stimulus funding for renewable energy research and development to the emerging marine renewable energy industry. Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI)
A new Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI), centered around high-level political commitments and proactive implementation by governments of the Coral Triangle area, and supported and carried forward by private sector, international agency and civil society (NGO) partners, could provide a major contribution toward safeguarding the region’s marine and coastal biological resources for the sustainable growth and prosperity of current and future generations.
